My Blogging Timeline - The Journey so Far…Part 1

I thought I would write these articles (part 1 & 2) to show how I’ve got to this point, with this blog - Build a Blog. I don’t want to completely bore you with the details, but I will cover the information that helped me make my decisions, and effected the direction my blogs took.
I first heard about blogging in January 2007, but I really didn’t recognize the potential of blogs and what I could do with them at that time. I was trying to make money on the internet through affiliate programs and pay per click advertising, but it wasn’t going well and I wasn’t enjoying it, so I started looking for something different. In February I started getting some emails from some internet marketer’s newsletters that I was subscribed to, they were talking about blogging. It sounded very interesting and much more like me, so I went for it and started a blog at Blogger.com. So I had my first blog, but what do I do with it, I had no idea how to set it up or even let people know that it existed!
I realised I needed some help, I came across an ebook called Blogging to the Bank about blogging that sounded promising, it gave technical information on how to set the blogger blog up, and how to decide and research a topic to blog about, which was a good start. I started 3 blogs altogether using this books methods. But it then went on to show me how to build a network of blogs using PLR articles (you purchase the rights for other peoples articles) and how to make a lot of money each month doing it.
It’s wasn’t what I was looking for, I wanted to write blogs about subjects that interested me, like photography and make it my own (I would still like to make the money part though!). Although a lot of people have found that information useful and had great success with Blogging to the Bank, I knew for me it would only last so long, before I started to find it a chore and lose interest. I know what I am like and I knew I needed to be captivated by my subject, to be able to put the time and effort in to make it a successful blog. So I decided to find some other help.
But that was easier said than done. I wanted more detailed information on how to build a blog, with a firm foundation and structure for rankings, and help with content production and traffic generation. So I knew what I wanted, but could I find it! It’s a big internet out there and there is a lot of information about blogs and blogging. It can be very confusing and you can get easily lost. I could find bits of information, but the only problem was they were everywhere…
Look out for part 2 coming tomorrow.
Mandy
